The STAND Foundation Edward Coleman Leadership Institute graduates 23 leaders
The STAND Foundation hosted a graduation ceremony on June 7, 2014, for the newest class of The STAND Foundation Edward Coleman Leadership Institute. The event was held at the Central Arkansas Main Library in the Darraugh Center Auditorium in Little Rock, Ark.
The STAND Foundation Edward Coleman Leadership Institute is a leadership development program for adults 20 and older. In the training participants attend five, day-long sessions focused on issues of personal, career, and community service, augmented by Internet-based training, motivational speakers and the development of a community service project plan. The newest class included 24 participants, including college students and agency employees.
“The leaders have worked very hard over the last several months proving their leadership abilities,” said La Juan Bedford, program administrator for The STAND Foundation. “We are especially proud of the service projects our leaders have developed. It is important they understand that leaders seek opportunities to give back to their communities.”
Former Arkansas legislator Tracy Steele, founder of The STAND Foundation and director of the Department of Human Services, Division of Youth Services, addressed the graduates.
“We’re here to motivate you to get to the next level,” said Steele, who shared insight and leadership obstacles and experiences with the class.
A major component of STAND’s training is the development of a community service project plan, which participants are encouraged to implement. The planning process itself is a quality of life skill STAND believes is an important characteristic for today’s leaders.
The STAND Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization created to empower individuals and organizations through leadership training. Nearly 350 participants have graduated from the program. The training is funded in part by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Delta Regional Authority, and the AmeriCorps VISTA program.
