Leadership classes kick-off in Little Rock, Pine Bluff

In August, classes for The STAND Foundation’s Edward Coleman Leadership Institute began in Little Rock and Pine Bluff, kicking-off the fall training sessions.
On Friday, August 8, 2014, The STAND Foundation held the first ECLI session at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. The Little Rock site had its first session on Friday, August 15, at Pulaski Technical College Business and Industry Center.
Each class had a dynamic line-up of speakers ready to share their insight and advice on the curriculum topics professional goal setting, budgeting and investment, office dynamics, personal finance, expectation in the workplace, and decision making.
Speakers for the sessions included former deputy commissioner for the Arkansas Department of Education, Dr. Charity Smith; image consultant, Patricia McCullough; Pine Bluff business owner and school board candidate, Natasha Savage; former chairman of the Arkansas State Banking Board, Rodney Parks; ACE Rehabilitation district manager, Shaylon Ware; and vice president in the Private Client Group for Stephens Inc., Kim O’Briant.
Higher education participants who spoke included UAPB’s chancellor, Alexander Laurence; UAPB director of Continuing Education, Bonita Corbin; chairman for College Studies at Pulaski Technical College and co-author of “The College Experience” student success franchise, Amy Baldwin; and county extension agent in Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Mary Ann Kizer.
The fall sessions are a part of STAND’s leadership training at higher education institutions, sponsored in part by The Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation. The second session for Little Rock was held on Friday, September 5, with the Pine Bluff class following on Friday, September 12.
The STAND Foundation Edward Coleman Leadership Institute is a five-month adult leadership development program supplemented by online assignments. A graduation follows the training.
