On Thursday, March 19, The STAND Foundation held the third Edward Coleman Leadership Institute session at South Arkansas Community College in El Dorado, Arkansas.
The leaders braced themselves for this powerful session, and were provided an array of moving speakers.
Dr. Charity Smith, principal associate for education at Fetterman & Associates, spoke to the leaders about personal and professional development and being prepared for the worst when attempting to accomplish goals. Nicholas Norfolk, co-founder of Connecting Dots Media, informed the leaders about several social media platforms and their significance in branding and conducting business in the social media realm. He also provided the class with essential social media do’s and don’t’s.
LaQuita Rainey, an ECLI alumna and owner and operator of Elder House Adult Day Care Center, spoke about her community service project and the benefits she received from attending the Edward Colman Leadership institute. Joyce Raynor, executive director of the Center for Healing Hearts & Spirits, reminded the leaders to make sure their passion matches their cause. She provided the class with entrepreneurial advice and fundamentals of how to establish a nonprofit status.
The STAND Foundation was delighted to have an impromptu speaker, former state representative Fred Allen, who spoke about the importance of never giving up on your dreams or goals. He shared his struggles and triumphs in his battle against cancer.
The combined spirit of all the speakers was so electrifying and inspiring it caused the group to respond to one of the leader’s request for unifying good works with a group hug, followed by an inspiring prayer.
The class is a part of STAND’s leadership training at higher education institutions, sponsored in part by the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Delta Regional Authority, Murphy Oil Corporation, and Corporation for National and Community Service. The next El Dorado ECLI session will be held at the Arkansas Senate Chamber on April, 24, 2015. To find out more about upcoming classes, call 501.374.8788.
